The water temperature remains pleasant, ranging from 70ºF to 80ºF, and depths vary from 30ft to 70ft.

Notably, between December and May, giant manta rays are more frequently spotted, providing a thrilling experience for divers. Additionally, the visibility is best during this period, allowing for clearer and more awe-inspiring underwater views.

Pesebre

  • Travel Time: 5 minutes
  • Description: Pesebre is a stunning dive site where you can witness schools of fish feeding along volcanic stone channels. Surgeonfish, Moorish idols, and jacks are common sightings here. Due to the possibility of strong currents, this site is best suited for divers with some experience.

The Garden

  • Maximum Depth: 80 feet
  • Travel Time: 5 minutes
  • Description: Famous for its breathtaking passage known as the “lava tunnel” by local divers, El Jardín is home to abundant marine life, including schools of fish and whitetip reef sharks. The soft coral garden is an ideal spot to swim alongside hawksbill sea turtles.

The Backyard

  • Maximum Depth: 90 feet / 27 meters
  • Travel Time: 5 minutes
  • Description: Your descent at El Patio begins atop a pointed rock formation, leading you through a vibrant array of marine life. Large schools of snappers are frequently seen in this area.

El Bajo del Medio

  • Maximum Depth: 60 feet / 18 meters
  • Travel Time: 2 minutes
  • Description: Protected from strong currents, Arrecife Medio is perfect for novice divers looking to familiarize themselves with the underwater environment. In waters ranging from 12 to 18 meters, you can spot manta rays in season, eagle rays, and much more.

Punta Bocana

  • Maximum Depth: 80 feet / 25 meters
  • Travel Time: 5 minutes
  • Description: Punta Bocana is undoubtedly the best spot in the area to observe whitetip reef sharks year-round and giant Pacific manta rays when they are in season. It’s one of the top dive sites in the Herradura/Jaco region.

Guapinol

  • Maximum Depth: 80 feet / 24 meters
  • Travel Time: 15 minutes
  • Description: Located about half a mile from the point separating Playa Hermosa from Jaco, Guapinol features a ridge in the middle of the sea. Starfish, rays, round rays, octopuses, and blennies abound here. While visibility can vary, the experience is always worthwhile.

Prioritize your well-being during the journey by staying sun-safe with sunscreen and a sunhat. If you tend to get seasick, it’s a good idea to take motion sickness tablets before boarding. For personalized medical advice, consulting a pharmacist or your doctor is always a wise step.

Bear in mind that ocean conditions can get rough and windy, especially on the return journey, which might lead to a wet and bumpy ride. However, the thrill of the experience is part of the adventure!
