Cano Island Biological Reserve

Located 20 kilometers from Bahía Drake and 52 kilometers south of Uvita, Caño Island is a protected biological reserve in Costa Rica, vital for marine and terrestrial conservation.

Spanning 320 hectares, it boasts rich biodiversity, clear waters, and thriving coral reefs, making it a prime ecotourism destination.

Renowned for snorkeling and diving, its waters host reef fish, rays, sharks, and sea turtles, with seasonal humpback whale migrations.

A tropical rainforest covers the island, with limited guided trails to minimize human impact and protect its delicate ecosystem.

Visitor access is restricted to 162 people daily, ensuring sustainable tourism and preserving both land and marine habitats.

Caño Island remains a pristine destination, offering a unique opportunity to experience Costa Rica’s rich marine biodiversity.
