An Experienced Local Crew
Top Notch is captained by Rolando Gonzales Cruz, a Quepos local with more than 35 years of experience fishing Costa Rica’s Pacific waters.
Knowing these waters matters. Offshore conditions, currents, bait and fish movements change throughout the year, and an experienced local crew can adapt the day according to the conditions and target species.
The bilingual crew welcomes both experienced anglers and guests fishing Costa Rica for the first time.
Fishing from Marina Pez Vela
Top Notch operates from Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, one of Costa Rica’s most recognized sportfishing destinations.
Its Central Pacific location provides access to productive offshore fishing grounds as well as inshore areas where roosterfish, snapper, grouper and other coastal species can be targeted.
Quepos is also the main marina for travelers staying in Manuel Antonio, making Top Notch particularly convenient for visitors to the Central Pacific.
What Can You Catch?
Fishing varies throughout the year, but depending on the season and whether you fish inshore or offshore, target species may include:
Offshore: Sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo.
Inshore: Roosterfish, snapper, grouper, Spanish mackerel and jack crevalle.
Fishing is fishing, so catches can never be guaranteed. The captain will recommend the best approach according to current conditions and the species you would like to target.
What to Bring
We recommend bringing sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, a hat and lightweight sun-protective clothing.
During Costa Rica’s rainy season, a lightweight rain jacket can also be useful.
A Costa Rica fishing license is required and can be obtained at Marina Pez Vela before departure.
